Spring Semester: January 27 - May 4, 2024

Design, Engineer, Build!

In each class, Explora educators engage children in activities that use the engineering design process to solve a problem. Whether it’s building a suspension bridge or figuring out what gears are best to use on a bike, children will have fun designing and building, perhaps without even realizing they are honing their problem-solving skills and learning engineering and physics principles! Activities change each semester.

Meets every other week for 1½ hours.
Parent or adult caregiver participation is welcome but not required.

Explora’s Camps & Programs

Explora educators develop activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.

Registration/Information

You can register online
Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.

Cancellation Policy

If a cancellation is received more than 5 business days before the camp, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 15% administrative fee.
Cancellations received 5 business days or fewer before the camp will not be refunded.
Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program

Crash Test

Saturday, January 27

Investigate the forces of motion and inertia in our first session of the semester. Put your findings to the test with egg crash dummies! Can you safely engineer a system to protect an egg?

Wiring a House

Saturday, February 10

After creating a model house, we will light it up with our own electrical circuits! How can you best light the rooms? How and where will the switches go?

Catch a Flight

Saturday, February 24

Take to the air and float above the gondolas as we experiment with paper gliders. How can you design your glider to sustain a long flight?

Exploring Robotics: Sphero

Saturday, March 9

Code a ball-shaped robot called a Sphero to follow a set of instructions. Then, use a variety of materials to give it some pizzazz. Will your bot prevail in the tournament of challenges?

Micro:bit Coding

Saturday, March 23

Use a micro:bit to make a virtual pet, giving it instructions in block code. You can even make your pet react to certain inputs!

Play It By Ear: Makey Makeys

Saturday, April 6

Explore pitch and volume as we make a cacophony of sounds with different materials. Join a jam session after we make our own instruments using Makey Makeys. It’s music to our ears!

Reflection Inspections

Saturday, April 20

Take a fresh look in the mirror as we delve into reflections and the resulting images. Where does symmetry occur in the world around us? Where can we find natural reflections? What will you see?

Pigments of Your Imagination

Saturday, May 4

In this session, we will make our own set of paints using natural pigments. What materials change the consistency and vibrancy of the paint? How do your paints look on your handmade paper?
