Investigate forensics, woodworking, programming, or biomedical engineering in these camps for young people who have completed grade 6, 7, or 8. Select a morning, afternoon, or one of each to make a full day of camp.

All-Day Camp (9am-4pm) – 5 full days:  $260 Explora members • $300 Non-members

Morning (9am-noon) – 5 half days:  $130 Explora members • $150 Non-members

Afternoon Camp (1-4pm) – 5 half days:  $130 Explora members • $150 Non-members

Youth Apprentice Program (8:45am-4pm) – Monday-Friday:  $525 Explora members • $597 Non-members

Add Before or After Camp Care (optional): Times: 8-9am and/or 4-5:30pm, $5 per child, per morning or afternoon

Week 2-4:  June 10-28

6th-8th – Youth Apprentice Program for ages 12-15*

Monday – Friday; 8:45am-4pm

Be inspired and empowered!  Become a Maker, not just a user. Learn about different types of engineering and technology. Learn to use some really cool tools. Create solutions to real-world problems. Meet a variety of STEM professionals, including people who solve problems for a living!

Week 1:  June 3-7

The following camps are for children who have completed grades 6, 7, or 8.

Morning

6th-8th – Nature’s Web (Valle De Oro): Take a walk on the wild side as we explore the ecosystems of the Valle De Oro Wildlife Refuge.  Each day we will travel to this reclaimed space while investigating and defining our role among local plants, animals, and the Rio Grande river. What will you find?
NOTE: This camp will require an additional transportation release.

Afternoon

6th-8th – Photo Finesse: Are you ready to take a picture without an Instagram filter? Create and manipulate photographs using a variety of techniques including a cyanotype developing process, photograms, pinhole cameras, and more. Apply your skills to capturing and sharing the world around you.


June 10-28

6th-8th – Youth Apprentice Program for ages 12-15*

Monday-Friday; 8:45am-4pm

Morning

6th-8th – The Great Explora Bake-Off: Throughout the week you will learn new skills in chemistry, calculating, baking, and building. Then use your skills to participate in a final bake-off challenge! What can you create?

Week 8:  July 29 – August 2

The following camps are for children who have completed grades 6, 7, or 8.

Morning

6th-12th – Creative Woodworking: Learn the basics of working with wood. Use traditional hand tools, such as chisels, saws, carving tools, and planes. Explore basic woodturning techniques on a lathe. Make projects designed to develop an understanding of the nature of wood and the skills for safe and effective shaping technique.

Afternoon

6th-8th – Raspberry Pi®: Learn real programming skills as you discover the ins and outs of a Raspberry Pi®, a computer the size of a credit card!
Camp price of $185, or $165 for Explora members, includes a $35 materials fee.

Funding assistance for this camp has been provided by Van Dyke Software.

  • Drop Off: Anytime between 8:45-9am.
  • Before care: (Extra option), beginning at 8am.
  • Activities: Classroom activities as described, plus exhibit exploration.
  • Food: Please pack morning & afternoon peanut-free snacks and lunch as appropriate.
  • Break time: Outside on the Explora playground, weather permitting.
  • Pick-up: 12pm for morning camp and 4pm afternoon or full day camp. Adults will be asked to show photo ID at pick-up.
  • After care: (Extra option) for K-8, 4-5:30pm.

Explora educators develop camp activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.

  • $130 for Explora members
  • $150 for non-members

Full Day Camps

  • $260 for Explora members
  • $300 for non-members
  • Some camps have greater costs due to materials.
Registration
  • All campers must be able to use the restroom on their own.
  • Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.

  • Cancelations received fewer than 5 business days before the camp will not be refunded.
  • Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program.
