Engineers Week at Explora!
February 17-23, 2019
Try fun engineering activities and challenges.
All included with paid general admission.
Sunday, February 17–Friday, February 22, 3-5pm
Lava Lake Challenge – Can you engineer a device that will get your scientific equipment to the middle of the lava lake?
Earthquake Construction Challenge – Construct a building and test it out on an earthquake simulator. Can you build a structure that survives an earthquake?
Saturday, February 23, 1-4pm
Activities presented by the Society of Women Engineers
Floodplain Model – Be a civil engineer! Try using an an interactive stormwater
floodplain simulator. See what happens when a grassland/ forest is turned into a parking lot (how the river below floods when it “rains”). Build structures along the river using clay to try to prevent houses from flooding.
Lissajous Curves – See how engineers use math. Experiment with a Lissajous curve generator and a simulator to understand the nature of Lissajous curves, and learn ways in which they can be used to solve engineering problems!
Mon-Sat: 10 am – 6 pm Sun: 12 pm – 6 pm
Closed on Jan. 1, July 4, the week after Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Dec. 25. We close at 2 pm on Dec. 24 and 31.
